Join us for an afternoon session of making beautiful valentine cards from a rich variety of reclaimed papers, notions and ephemera. We’ll provide simple instructions for a technique for making woven paper hearts, and all the tools and materials needed to make and take home a half dozen lovely ready-to-mail cards.

Workshop: Woven Darning
Woven darning is an excellent way to repair many types of fabric, especially knits.
We’ll learn how to select materials and set up the darn, how to weave a stable patch, and many elements of design to make your patch stand out. Participants are welcome to bring a garment to work on, but samples and practice pieces will also be provided. No prior experience necessary!

Learn the basics of using a sewing machine by making a simple tote bag, customized to your preferences. If you plan to use a particular sewing machine, bring it in, working or not. If you have some fabric you'd like to use, bring it in.

Basics of Mending and Patching by Hand
This is an introductory class on the basics of clothing repair, focusing on non-stretch woven fabrics. We will go over selection of materials, hand sewing techniques, and multiple ways to sew a patch with a decorative flair. No prior sewing experience necessary! Participants are welcome to bring a damaged garment to work on, but samples and fabric to work with will also be provided.

Learn to Crochet: Reusable Cotton Rounds
In this two-hour workshop, you’ll learn the basics of crochet and create a set of reusable cotton rounds - perfect for face scrubbies or toner pads. No prior crochet experience needed! We’ll guide you step-by-step through the foundational crochet stitches and share helpful techniques for crafting your own handmade pieces.
Workshop: Reverse Applique with T-Shirts
Create something beautiful from old t-shirts using reverse appliqué, a sewing technique where multiple layers of fabric are sewn together, and the top layer is cut away to reveal the fabric underneath. Using only hand sewing techniques we will learn how to plan and stitch reverse appliqué designs while making a small coaster to take home. This class is suitable for sewing beginners. Materials will be provided, but you are welcome to bring two contrasting -shirts to cut up.

This project incorporates machine and hand sewing, participants are welcome to bring their own machine to use (we will have two machines to share). Various fabrics will be provided. Feel free to bring your own fabric scraps, fabric must hold a crisp fold when pressed.
Black Friday Craft Supply Swap
Join us at the Reuse Hub from 12:30-3:30pm on Black Friday for a craft supply swap! If you have craft materials of any kind that you're not using- fabric, yarn, paints, thread, etc- feel free to bring them to contribute. You never know what item you'll find that inspires your next upcycled art project.
We'll also be making star ornaments out of damaged book pages, a craft you can do again and again with scrap paper. We hope to see you there and spend some crafty time in community together!

The Reuse Hub Grand Opening
Join us for the Grand Opening of the new Reuse Hub - a central place for reuse in the North Bay! Come tour the new facility at the Petaluma Outlet Mall, explore the reuse resources, and sign up for upcoming reuse skills workshops.
Learn about Reuse Alliance and our programs including our upcoming Repair Fairs and how you can get involved. We will be open from 12pm - 6pm with lots of reuse activities and demonstrations happening all day and for all ages. Can’t wait to see you there!
SRJC Green Living Fair
Join us at SRJC’s Green Living Fair! We will be on the main quad at the Santa Rosa Campus of Santa Rosa Junior College from 3:30 - 5:30pm.
SRJC Fashion will be there doing textile mending and we will be fixing lamps/small appliances and bicycles. We will also be sharing information about Reuse Resources, the new Reuse Hub, upcoming events and how to get involved!
